Billy Sky Boho Jewelry

Hello everyone and happy Sunday!

I am starting a new series on my blog where I spot light some amazing brands and artists that I am obsessed with for a lack of a better word! The first brand I am featuring is called Billy Sky. Lauren, the owner, has created some of my favorite jewelry pieces that I have seen in a long time. They are the perfect mix of feminine and edgy. Bellow, Lauren did a little Q and A for me where she answered all the questions I had about her amazing brand!

You have the best style! How would you describe your style and where do you get your style inspiration?

Aw thank you! You can say my passion for style started at a very young age. My Grandfather was a clothing manufacturer in Los Angeles and I don’t think there is one woman I was close to growing up that didn’t have a great sense of style. Planet Blue Malibu has always been my absolute favorite boutique and I continue to draw inspiration from their amazing journey. I also get a lot of style inspiration through music, especially from the 70s era. As far as my style goes I love to play along the lines of mixing feminine with edgy.

How did you get into jewelry design?

I actually started Billy Sky as a vintage resale business and started making handmade jewelry to style with the clothes. After having children, I decided just to focus on growing the jewelry end of the brand. I would love to bring clothing design back in one day though!!

I’m not sure if you could ever pick, but do you have a favorite piece that you’ve designed?

The beaded fringe earrings are and have always been a favorite design because they have evolved so much through the years. It is wonderful to get to change the design as seasons change. I also love the newest large Crescent Statement Necklaces. I love designing pieces that are maticulously imperfect.

Where do you see your brand in 5 years?

For the next 5 years I will continue to grow Billy Sky Lifestyle Brand, achieving goals and letting the process unfold…by the end of 5 years I would hope to end up somewhere magical ✨

If there is anything else you want my readers to know about your or your jewelry, feel free to share it!

There is so much love put into every single piece made. So many of my clients express to me how many compliments they get on their Billy Sky. It feels wonderful knowing I am making people’s day brighter by doing what I love.

Well, there it is guys! The necklace that she sent me is one of my favorite pieces I own. I have already gotten so many compliments and it is truly a work of art that I get to wear around my neck! I can’t wait to see what else Lauren brings to the table and where her brand goes. I am foreseeing big things!

Kimonos and Graphic Tees

There have been two things that I have been obsessed with recently…graphic tees and kimonos/dusters. And when you put the two together, you’ve got the perfect outfit in my opinion. Here me out…the graphic tee adds a little personality to your outfit. It can say something about you without you having to say anything at all! This one is actually one of the most comfortable tshirts that I have put on my body. It has that worn in feel without having that worn in (dingy) look. OBSESSED. Now to the kimono. It adds a little boho vibe to the outfit and feels like a robe/blanket. See what I mean? The perfect outfit. I have a feeling this is going to be my new uniform for the remainder of the summer and beginning of fall. IMG_4650Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetIMG_4640

Escape Room and 7 Things

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

One of my favorite bloggers, Amber Fillerup, has a series called 12 things where she updates her readers of whats happening in her life. I love reading it and thought it would be fun to do something similar on here. I think it’ll be fun to look back on here and see what we were up to at the time. So, here are SEVEN things that we have been up to lately.

  1. We did an escape room last weekend and LOVED it. My dad and sister were in town, and we have all always wanted to do one. We went over to Lock Down in Scottsdale and seriously had the best time. Basically, for those of you who don’t know what a Lock Down room is, you are locked in a room and have 60 min to find clues and solve riddles to help you get out of the room. It was a really fun way to use our brains and still have fun at the same time. I highly recommend it to anyone! We are actually already planning on going again for my mom’s birthday.
  2. It is monsoon season, and I’ve never been so scared. I have been terrified of storms since I was a little girl. These Arizona storms are no joke. Everyone pray for me.
  3. School starts again next week! I am a big ball of mixed emotions. Part of me is excited and another part of me wants to run away.
  4. We have been on a serious sushi kick. Ive eaten sushi a couple times a week for the last month. I actually can’t stop!
  5. Big Brother is back on! I actually only got into Big Brother last summer, and I am totally hooked. If anyone is in need of a new show, try it out!
  6. Target’s clothing and shoes are killing it right now. I recently spent a nice chunk of money on some really cute clothes from there. Outfit pictures to come.
  7. Now that school is about to start, I am ready for fall. Bring on the pumpkin spice, boots, and cooler (ish) weather.

I hope everyone has a great week and thanks for stopping by!

5 Tips for Petite Girls

For those of you who have never actually met me in real life, you may not know that I am short. Like, 5 feet (5’1 on a good day) short. Every time I meet someone that I have met through social media, the first thing they always say to me is, “I didn’t realize how little you are!” Every single time. And, I actually take this as a huge compliment. I feel like that means that I have figured out how to trick people into thinking that I am not as short as I really am! Below I have my 5 tricks that can help any short girl.

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

  1. High-waisted bottoms are your friend. I think that high-waisted shorts, skirts, and pants can make your legs look so much longer than they actually are. I love high-waisted maxi skirts. They are so flattering and can make your legs look like they go on for days.

  2. So, you found a really cute high waisted maxi skirt. You go try it on, and it is a foot too long. This literally happens to me maybe every single time I try a maxi on. There is nothing that makes you look shorter than pants or skirts that are too long. Well, I have found the BEST solution! It is called hem tape and it is possibly the best thing that has happened to my wardrobe in a long time. It is basically tape that you can “hem” your skirts or pants with. There is no sewing involved, and it takes maybe 5 minutes to do. I used it on the skirt above and it saved me from having to get it tailored. Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
  3. Find cropped jeans. Almost all of my favorite “pants” are actually cropped jeans or capris that fit me like normal pants. I swear by this trick. There is something about jeans that fit perfectly length wise that really makes you look taller. (I also get cropped leggings and yoga pants) In the photo above, I am wearing “crops” and they fit like a glove! Processed with VSCO with a6 preset
  4. Use a small purse. I haven’t used a big purse in years. They are so heavy, and I tend to fill it up with unnecessary stuff that I do not need. I also dislike them because they make a petite girl look smaller than they already are! Small purses, however, don’t overpower your body and complement your size. Processed with VSCO with a4 preset
  5. Tuck it in, tie it, or crop it. This kind of goes along with tip #1, but when you wear the high waisted bottoms, you need to make sure you are showing off ALL of your legs! Long shirts can cut your body in half and get rid of your waist. I tuck in the front of almost all my shirts regardless of the high waist. By simply tucking in your shirt, it can make your legs look longer and add some structure to your body!

I hope this helps out all my short girls out there! I know the pain of trying to find clothes that fit and not looking long and tall in photos. I hope these tricks help, and feel free to leave any tips that you might have below!

How cute is this top?! I love the big, full sleeves, the light and airy material, and the beautiful embroidery. I think it is so summery paired with these white shorts and sandals but will also transition into fall and winter paired with skinnies and boots. I’m all about pieces that I can wear all year long.

The other day, I was going through my closest and realized I own almost no red clothing! It’s not that I dislike the color. I just am never drawn to red clothes for some reason. And to be honest, I have a whole lot of blue and neutrals and pretty much nothing else haha whoops! (Does anyone else have that problem?!) So, anyways, I have now made it a goal to expand my wardrobe and this top was a perfect transition into the world of red! The red embroidery such a cute and fun pop and then I can still stay in my comfort zone of neutrals everywhere else. Baby steps guys!

I hope everyone has an amazing week!

Syd & Al in the City

To be honest, I actually am not a fan of the city. Big cities make me kind of nervous, and I find so much more beauty in the ocean, country, or mountains than I do in the city. After this photoshoot, however, I have now seen how beautiful the city can be. I loved the way the sun shined on the buildings, the architecture, and the overall vibe. I was truly blown away with how beautiful these pictures turned out. I may still not be a city girl, but I can pretend to be every once in a while if it looks like this.

June Favorites

Hey everyone and happy Hump day!

June has officially come to a close, and I am so sad to see it go. I love summer, and once June is over, it is almost like my summer is over! (For those of you who don’t know, I am a teacher and our school year starts back up in July!) I tried and enjoyed lots of things in June and thought it would be fun to share them with you guys!

Overalls. (similar) I have been loving overall shorts and dresses this June. Anytime I have to throw on something really quick, I always pick one of my many overall options. I think they make you look stylish without really having to try, they are light, and come in so many fun fabrics. This dress is one of my favorites. It is so cute and easy! (I get most of mine from Urban Outfitters. They have the best selection)

Checkerboard Vans. I am new to the whole Vans world, but I am definitely hooked! They are one of the few pairs of shoes that don’t bother me after wearing them for a long day. I love paring them with my overalls, yoga pants, dresses, or jean shorts. I think they make any outfit look just a little bit “cooler”. And I will take all the help I can get lol

Ouai Texturizing Spray . I LOVE trying new hair products. My skin is super sensitive which doesn’t really allow me to try out new skincare, so I try out new hair products instead! My new addiction is this Quai Texturizing Spray. It adds so much texture to my hair without making it feel dirty or crunchy, which I have found with other sprays. I also LOVE the smell and lasts all day long. I’m hooked!

Hair Skin and Nails Pills . I recently got a little trim a couple weeks ago and dyed my hair back to its natural color. Now that it is nice and healthy, I am really trying to grow it out so its long AND strong. It has been heavily bleached and damaged for about two years, and I am ready for it to go back to how it used to be before I tried to be blonde. I have been taking these pills all month, and so far, I love them (plus they taste like fruit snacks). It is a little too soon to see if they are making huge improvements in length, but my hair definitely feels better than it did last month! I will keep you updated on the progress. I am also trying out Amber Fillerup’s Summer Hair Challenge  this month and next. Go check it out if you are wanting to grow out your locks too!

Lifestyle Favorites

Zoella . Guys. I love Zoella. For those of you who don’t know, she is a YouTuber that makes beauty videos and vlogs. I have loved watching her vlogs this month! She just moved to possibly the most perfect house I have ever seen and is so stinkin cute and down to earth. Watching her videos can make me go from a bad mood to a great mood in minutes. Go check her out!

Calligraphy Made Easy . I have been wanting to try calligraphy or brush lettering for the longest time now but didn’t know where to start. When I was at Barnes and Noble the other day, I found this book and knew this was my chance to learn. And let me tell you, I am seriously obsessed! It is laid out so well with lots of practice pages and really cute “projects” in the back. I have spent hours practicing and creating in my cute new book. I am no where even close to a pro, but I do feel like I am starting to get the hang of it! If anyone has been wanting to learn how to do calligraphy or just likes having something to do while watching TV, I highly recommend this book!

Let me know what you guys have been into this month or if you try any of my favorites!

The Summer of Palm Leaves

I have become so obsessed with palm leaf prints recently. Whether it is home decor or clothes, I can’t stop buying it. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to have it! It is so cute and summery. And the best part? It’s covered in palm leaves! Just looking at these pictures is making me feel like I need to book a vacation just so that I can wear this dress again.

Best of Scottsdale

Happy Monday everyone!

This weekend, we had some family in town, and anytime we have anyone in town, we love to take them over to Scottsdale. We LOVE Scottsdale. There are so many fun shops, restaurants, and activities. It is possibly my favorite town in Arizona and we spend as much time there as we can. We basically find any excuse to go there, and this weekend was no exception. I’m sure there are so many stores and restaurants that we haven’t explored yet, but here are some of my favorites that we have.

Where to Eat

Processed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 preset

Diego Pops

Diego Pops is probably my favorite restaurant of all time. It is located in Old Town Scottsdale, just around the corner from the mall. First of all, the restaurant itself is SO cute. Everything from the decor to the floor to the menu is perfect. After drooling for a couple of minutes over the restaurant’s decor, it is then time to drool over their menu. I have tried a couple things off of their menu, but my favorites are the tacos and taco bowls. I am convinced that you cannot order anything bad.

Culinary Drop Out

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 preset

Culinary Drop Out is another favorite of ours. First of all, the location is perfect. After a long day of shopping, it is only steps from the mall and has some delicious options. We love the pretzel bites with cheese dip, the grilled cheese sliders, and the Italian salad.

Where to shop

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 preset

Alixandra Collections

I am all about local boutiques. Throughout high school and college, I worked at local boutiques and shops, and I love to show support. I also feel like they have the best clothes and are so much less overwhelming than shopping at a mall. Alixandra Collections is no exception. They have some ADORABLE clothes and the nicest staff. I had to refrain from buying the entire store. They are also located in the cutest shopping mall that we walked around after shopping there. Also, for all of you non Arizona people, they have an online store that has all of their clothes that I listed bellow. Use my code ACXHappilyYoung for an extra 10% off of your order. Alixandra Collections

Fashion Square Mall

While I prefer shopping at smaller boutiques or online, if I am in the right mood, I will venture to the mall. Fashion Square Mall is huge! They have stores like Nordstrom, Zara, Anthropologie, and pretty much any store that you could ever need.

Where to sweet

Sprinkles Cupcakes

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 presetProcessed with VSCO with a4 preset

Sprinkles is a no brainer when you have a sweet tooth. I am actually not a huge fan of cakes and cupcakes, but there is something about Sprinkles that really draws me in. I’m not sure if it is the cupcake ATM or all of the amazing options, but I seem to make my way in there basically every time I am in Scottsdale.

Ruze Cake House

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetIMG_3545Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

This weekend was actually the first time I have ever been to this place, but it will definitely not be the last. It is quite possibly the cutest place I have ever been to and is perfect for a cute photo and a quick treat. They have some really adorable macaroons and cookies along with some fun boba drinks to wash them down. I am obsessed.

Let me know if you guys have any must have stops in Scottsdale area. Chances are I will be back next week and would love to give them a try;)

Shopping on a Budget

View More: More: More: More: More:

View More: More:

I love shopping, but I hate spending money. How many of you say this to yourselves at least once a day? Well, I’m here to help. I have compiled my top 4 tips on how to get your shopping fix in on a budget.

  1. Sign up on the mailing list for your favorite stores. I know…it is so annoying getting 100 emails a day from 100 different stores. However, their emails usually have info about the store’s latest deals or sales. For instance, the dress I am wearing in the pictures is from Anthropologie. I LOVE their stuff but hate their price tags. I got an email from them the other week that said all of their sale was an extra 40% off. So, not being able to avoid a deal, I headed over to their sale section and found this beautiful dress on sale for $40. 40% off of $40 is $24! Which means I got this $138 dress for $24! I probably wouldn’t have known about this sale if I wasn’t on their mailing list.
  2. Try thrifting. I have a love hate relationship with thrift stores. I love finding unique treasures, but I hate the smell and germs (sorry but its icky) and looking through the junk in order to find the treasures. I have had the best luck at places like Plato’s Closet, because they kind of sift through the junk for you and only keep good pieces for their racks. They have brands like Free People and ASOS on sale for a fraction of the price.
  3. Patience is a virtue. I cannot tell you how many times I have fallen in love with a shirt or pair of shoes and just waited a couple weeks for it to go on sale to get a better deal. Target is the best place for this. They get new clothes in so often that they have no choice but to put their “old” clothes on sale making their already inexpensive clothes even more inexpensive.
  4. Do your research. I am constantly on Pinterest or Instagram looking at fashion inspo. I find designer or name brand pieces that I love and then head to places like TJ Maxx or Forever 21 to find knock off or copy cat versions of those pieces. Sometimes those places are so overwhelming, so it helps going in knowing exactly what you are looking for. (Tip 4.5: TJ Maxx will sometimes have current pieces for a super discounted price. I have seen Free People and Cloth and Stone clothing in their stores and then go to TJ Maxx a day later and they will have the SAME clothes only cheaper. Idk how it works, but I’m not complaining)

Let me know if you guys have any other tips or tricks for shopping on a budget! I hope everyone has a great week!
